How it all began |
Oriental Construction & Electrical Supply Co., Inc. was set up in 1945 by Chua Tian and his brother Chua Fuk who passed away years after the company was started. Chua Tian was an immigrant from China and was not yet a Filipino citizen at that time. He partnered up with his brother who was already a Filipino citizen so that they could build the business as partners. When his brother passed away, Chua Tian bought the shares from the deceased brother. Since Chua Tian was not a Filipino citizen, and by law a non-Filipino is not allowed to put up a business, he planned to change the type of ownership into a corporation. The children of Chua Tian at that time were old enough to work with him and they inherited the business.
When Chua Tian died the shares of the company was equally divided among his children and James Chua became the CEO of the company. On the first few years of the company as a corporation it experienced hardships, but they eventually overcame these and the company now stands as one the top distributors of a certain brand of electrical supplies in the country. |
